Birgit Hellwig

LSA 206: Field semantics and semantic typology

Birgit Hellwig is a Junior Professor, teaching language documentation at the University of Erfurt, Germany. She has a background in African linguistics, having worked extensively on various grammatical, semantic and pragmatic aspects of Goemai (a West Chadic language of Nigeria) and Katla and Julud (two closely-related Kordofanian languages of the Sudan). Major research interests include lexical and constructional semantics, fieldwork methodology, and the integration of semantics into language description and documentation.
