Ian Maddieson

LSA 113: Field phonetics and phonetic typology

Ian Maddieson received his Ph.D. in 1977 from UCLA and has held appointments there, at Berkeley, and at the University of New Mexico. He has published widely in all areas of phonetic and phonological typology, including the books Patterns of Sounds (1984) and The Sounds of the World's Languages (1996, with Peter Ladefoged).
