LSA 220: Morphology, syntax, and semantics of modals

Kai von Fintel is Professor of Linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and also serves as the Associate Dean of the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at MIT. He received his Ph.D. in 1994 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst under the supervision of Angelika Kratzer. His research interests are in the intersections of semantics, pragmatics, and philosophy of language. His recent work has dealt with the morphosemantics of weak necessity modals (with Sabine Iatridou), universals in semantics (with Lisa Matthewson), epistemic modality (with Thony Gillies), presupposition accommodation, and conditional sentences.
