Transportation
From San Francisco Airport (SFO)
- 1. Taxi: Fare approximately $60 to $80.
- 2. Shuttle Service:
- For shuttles we recommend making a ride reservation at least 48 hours in advance.

- Bayporter Express Shuttle: Goes directly from San Francisco (SFO) to Berkeley for $29. Call 877-467-1800 at the airport to get a van to Berkeley.
- Super Shuttle: From SFO to Berkeley for $35. Call 415-558-8500 for a van.
- 3. Bay Area Rapid
Transit (BART): You can take BART from SFO to Downtown Berkeley ($5.90). There is only one line leaving SFO, the Pittburgh/Bay Point-bound (yellow line) train. Take it to 12th Street Downtown Oakland, where you get out and cross the platform to the Richmond-bound (red line) train, which should be sitting there timed for the transfer. If you exit at Downtown Berkeley, you will be at the intersection of Shattuck and Center Street.
Tickets are bought from the machines, either for the amount you want/need for the one trip, or for more. For example, you can buy a ticket for $10 or $20 and then use it for additional trips during your stay. There is no one there to sell you a ticket or give you change, but there are change machines for both.
BART runs on weekdays 4 am-midnight, on Saturday 6 am-midnight and on Sunday 8 am-midnight. The Berkeley campus is located 1 block east of the Downtown Berkeley BART station (see map). Fare from SFO is $5.90.
From Oakland Airport (OAK)
- 1. Taxi: Fare approximately $30.
- 2. Shuttle Service:

- Bayporter Express: Goes directly between Oakland Airport (OAK) and Berkeley. Call 877-467-1800 at the airport to get a van to Berkeley. The fare is $23.
- SuperShuttle: Goes directly between OAK and Berkeley for $32. Call 415-558-8500 for a van.
- 3. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART): Take the AirBART shuttle ($3.00) from the Oakland airport to the Coliseum BART station. AirBART stands are located directly in front of both Terminal 1 and 2. At the Coliseum station, take a Richmond-bound train and get off at the Downtown Berkeley station. BART runs on weekdays 4 am-midnight, on Saturday 6 am-midnight and on Sunday 8 am-midnight. The Berkeley campus is located 1 block east of the BART station (see map). Fare: $2.20.
By Car
From I-80 take the Berkeley exit at University. Continue on University Avenue for about 2 miles, then turn right onto Shattuck Avenue. Go 6 blocks and turn left onto Durant Avenue (a one-way headed east). Go 6 blocks and turn left onto College Avenue. Take the next left onto Bancroft Way, a one-way street headed west. There are several commercial parking garages in the area: on Bowditch Street to the south of Bancroft; on Bancroft between Telegraph Avenue and Dana Street (next to the Student Union); and on Durant between Dana and Telegraph. There are also University parking lots that can be used on evenings and weekends. See the following links for helpful information:
